History of the Cape Coral Festival of the Arts
Since its start in January of 1985, the Cape Coral Festival of the Arts has been a local favorite. Long-time Cape Coral resident John Jacobsen wanted to create a real art festival in Lee County. At the time of the festival’s creation, Jacobsen was a fine arts artist and spent much of his time traveling to other art festivals in the northern part of the country. With the lack of art festivals in the county he called home, Jacobsen became frustrated. Around the same time, he became a member of the Cape Coral Rotary Club and brought the idea of a Lee County art festival to the organization. Not long after that, the Rotary Club saw the great potential and benefits that an art festival could bring to Lee County. Jacobsen then set out to do a great deal of research to make sure the art festival he was planning would be the best art festival it could possible be. After strategic date placement and planning, the Cape Coral Festival of the Arts was born. Fast forward and the festival is still held at the beginning of January in Cape Coral.

The Cape Coral Festival of the Arts has grown so significantly that it is one of Cape Coral’s largest annual events. Now the festival attracts over 100,000 people each year to view the unique pieces from fantastic local artists. Throughout the years, many different kinds of artists have participated such as fine crafts, jewelry, mixed media, painting, photography, and sculpture. Throughout the festival, a blue-ribbon panel will both judge the art as well as award the top three pieces in each category. This is an event for the whole family so make sure to bring the kids along! Your children will have lots of fun with the child-centered activities like the rock-climbing wall and activity center.
